The 2009 SSAA NSW Colonial Action Championships

 20 ,21,22 March 2009 Pictures

Were held at the Windermere Shooting Complex (Home of the Cudgegong Troopers) for three days across the fourth weekend in March.

Shooters from Sydney, Tamworth, Nowra, Bathurst, Oberon and Merriwa joined members of the SSAA Mudgee & District Branch Inc Pistol Club for the annual State Titles with many arriving Friday for the Stan Triggs Memorial Black Powder matches.

With the 8 competition stages set around the theme of "Ned Kelly - The Last of the Serious Bushrangers" and excellent weather conditions prevailing, a great weekend of single action shooting was held in the best Colonial tradition.

Winners of the SSAA Gold Medals on offer across seven handgun competition categories were:-

Colonial                                    Barry Fell - Sydney

Single Action                            Tom Coulter - Oberon

Single Action Target                 Emanuel Mangion - Sydney

Double Action Target               Phil Martyn - Merriwa

Ladies                                      Michele Rose - Bathurst

Senior                                      Don Barwick - Oberon

Competition within the Junior Category was intense with 13 year old Georgie Latta from Tamworth taking out the Gold Medal from Adam and Terrence Mangion from Sydney when separate equipment malfunctions left the brothers each failing to complete one stage.

It will be interesting to see how the junior competition shapes up at both the SSAA NSW Single Action Revolver Championships to be held the fourth weekend in May and the next Colonial Shoot "Bushrangers and Bolters" the fourth weekend in September; the boys will certainly be out to avenge their loss.

The Annual General Meeting of SSAA NSW Colonial Action Discipline was held at the range Saturday evening and John Triggs from the South Coast was again elected State Discipline Coordinator with Tom Coulter as the Deputy Coordinator.

Shooter from as far away as Tamworth, Nowra, Sydney,
Parkes and Condobolin joined a dedicated group of
locals in the hot conditions to compete in the 13th
Annual "Coachstop" Single Action Shoot held at the
Windamere Shooting Complex last weekend.
As a total fireban was in force all black powder
events were cancelled but the competitors enjoyed the
remaining events with shooting starting early each
day whilst conditions were "cooler" and finishing
each day around midday.

Local organizers Tom Coulter amd Jeff Bultitude were
please with the success of the weekend and the
contrast with the weather from the same weekend last
year could not have been more extreme when
competitors were eager to leave the line and gather
around the fire with icy cold winds and sleet being
the order of the day.
Same range - same weekend - 12 months difference!
What a land of contrasts!  Climate change?  What
climate change? Yeah right!!!!!!
Cheers
